Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Client Confidentiality
The privacy, confidentiality, and security of client information are fundamental to the services provided by Oya Therapy.
In accordance with applicable federal and state laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as well as the ethical standards governing licensed mental health professionals, Oya Therapy does not use publicly available or non-HIPAA-compliant artificial intelligence (AI) platforms to create, analyze, summarize, interpret, or store Protected Health Information (PHI) or any other confidential client information.
Client records, treatment notes, assessments, communications, and other confidential information are maintained using secure systems designed to protect client privacy and confidentiality. Identifying client information will not be entered into AI applications or services that cannot contractually and legally safeguard Protected Health Information.
If AI-assisted technology is ever considered for administrative or clinical support in the future, it will only be used when:
The technology complies with HIPAA and all applicable federal and state privacy laws;
Appropriate security safeguards and contractual protections, including a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) where required, are in place;
Its use is consistent with applicable professional ethical standards; and
Clients are informed when required by law or professional regulations.
Oya Therapy remains committed to exercising professional judgment in all clinical services. Artificial intelligence will never replace the clinical expertise, ethical responsibility, or decision-making of a licensed mental health professional in the provision of therapy services.
