Located in the heart of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Oya Therapy offers a safe, welcoming space where healing and self-discovery can flourish.
A Message from our Founder: Ishara Pinkney-Lee
THE “WHY?”
Oya Therapy’s mission is to assist clients with examining their lives and identifying the harmful pieces that keep them stuck in unfulfilling ways of living. Too many of us navigate the world believing we “should” be a certain way, when in reality, there are many ways to exist and thrive. Unlearning who we think we are to become our most authentic selves is one of the keys to a healthy quality of life.
THE “WHO?”
As a Black woman, my aim is to empower people (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, neurodiverse, neurotypical, etc.) to step into the version of themselves that brings them the most joy and well-being.
THE “HOW?”
Let’s face it; social media and the algorithm are good at feeding us the information we want to see rather than the information we need. We become stuck in an echo chamber that reinforces beliefs that may keep us in spaces that do more harm than good. At Oya Therapy, we take an eclectic, modern approach to psychotherapy that relies on an authentic therapeutic alliance between clinician and client. I like to say that I’ll be the “Virgil to your Dante as you traverse the 9 Circles of Hell to fight for your salvation” (IYKYK). I’ll be transparent with you; healing is hard. For many, it's one of the hardest things you will ever do because it requires honesty, trust, a willingness to accept the role we play in our own suffering, and commitment to changing our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Our job as your clinicians is to walk with you on that journey by offering a professional, compassionate space to explore the parts of you that hurt and to guide you in healing.
"Storms are part of life. This destructive clearing makes room for vibrant new growth. When stormy emotions and tempestuous circumstances may whirl around you, remind yourself that after the storm comes the sun and rainbow. Hang on!"- Oya Therapy
How Can We Help You?
Our individual journey is rife with loss, love, learning, failure, and experiences that others will define us by. This can be challenging to navigate alone. That is what we are here for: to give you specifically curated, individualized support through our individual therapy sessions.
Initially, there are two things individual sessions can provide: an immediate safe space and a professional guide.
The therapy space is considered one of the few safe places (a buzzword, I know) that exists to give you a safety net to explore, to fail, to learn, and to grow without judgment. Your clinician is your guide as you unravel old wounds and patterns so you can make room for new values, self-compassion, conversation, and creativity.
In the long-term, all of this is available to you when you’re ready to make a commitment to spend an hour every week (or every other week) on yourself. You’re worth it.
Have Questions?
Book a FREE 15-minute Consultation
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, which is why we offer a free 15-minute consultation by phone or secure video. This conversation is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and determine whether we're a good fit for your therapeutic journey.
The consultation is informal and designed to answer your questions, discuss your needs, and help you feel confident about your next steps. While this is not a therapy session or clinical assessment, it provides a space to explore whether our services align with what you're looking for.
During your consultation, we'll discuss:
What brings you to therapy and what you're hoping to gain from the experience.
Our therapeutic approach, treatment modalities, and Professional Disclosure Statement so you know what to expect from working together.
Practice logistics, including scheduling, session fees, payment policies, and telehealth options.
Your questions, so you can make an informed decision about whether Oya Therapy is the right fit for you.
If we decide to move forward together, you'll receive access to the secure TherapyNotes® Patient Portal, where you'll complete your intake paperwork before scheduling your first session.
Our hope is that you leave the consultation feeling informed, supported, and confident in whatever next step is best for you—even if that means connecting you with another provider better suited to your needs.
